At the February 16 protest, 2019

We have the first reactions of the internationals relating to the protest of today; the European Union has issued a formal statement appealing for the end of the violence.

In the statement of the EU delegation, which also spoke on behalf of the embassies of the union, accredited in Tirana, calls on to the parties to distance themselves from the violence.

"The European Union Delegation along with all the embassies of the union, accredited in Tirana, call on the parties to stay in peace and to leave behind the acts of violence. The right of the citizens to protest for their dissatisfaction must be made peacefully, as guaranteed by democratic institutions. We repeat once again the call for the parties to distance themselves from violence and any act of violence," reads the European Union's response.

In the same line was the US Embassy in Tirana, who condemned any act of violence and called on the parties to help restore peace.

"The US Embassy condemns strongly the violence and the destruction that took place during today's protests in Tirana. We support the citizens' right to a peaceful protest, but the damage of public property and the violence are not acceptable. We encourage all parties to show better restraint and restore tranquility. We urge all political parties to denounce these acts and take all necessary steps to ensure that the situation becomes peaceful and constructive,

Earlier, Ambassador of Great Britain to Tirana, Duncan Norman also reacted calling on the parties to protest peacefully and to distance themselves from any act of violence.
