Serbia seeks the agreement with Kosovo before the US Elections

"America is actively involved in solving the Kosovo issue. Their administration is pressuring Pristina to withdraw the tax on goods to Serbia so that both parties after a few months of vacuum sit again at the negotiating table", writes the Serbian portal 'Blic.'

"Trumpi himself sent a letter presidents Aleksandar Vucic and Hashim Thaci, and he asks them to do everything because they have never been closer to the historic deal."

Though it is not yet known who might come up against the Trump line, the change of the administration and the arrival of the Democrats in power would also affect the events in this region. The Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic praised in a statement for "Blic" that Trump's departure would be a bad thing for solving the Kosovo problem.

"That does not fit us. There will be an ultimatum - everything has already been resolved, Kosovo is already independent and we only need to recognise it "- Dacic says.

Dragan Djukanovic from the Center for Foreign Policy organisation believes that the new US administration will remain on the same line when it comes to addressing this issue.

"The new administration would have the same decisive approach to this issue. Moreover, the pressure to end the dialogue would be certainly more powerful. Additionally, the American influence would undoubtedly be stronger with regard to Kosovo side and the framework for final settlement would have been much more in line with what Pristina requires," Djukanovic said.

The elections in the United States should be held next Autumn, and the one who comes to the office of the President or perhaps replaces Trump, assumes the office on January 1, 2021.

Marko Savkovic from the Belgrade's Political Advantage Fund says there is still little time left to reach a final solution when it comes to Kosovo.

"What will be done in the first half of 2020 has been done. After that, the rule is not to do great things, otherwise would be contrary to the practice," Savkovic said, stating that any further delays in solving the problem would be negative for Serbia.

He says the election result in the United States is unlikely to be predicted, because it is not yet clear who will be Trump's challenger, and Trump himself is likely to have a new mandate.

Asked if a possible deal would be important to Trumpin in the internal plan, Savkovic responded positively.

"All US presidents have their own great moments. Bill Clinton, for example, had his time with Peres and Arafat. It is always important to appear as a great peacemaker and send a message. It is not true that he is not interested in the events in the world," Savkovic concludes.

US elections are not the only ones that can affect events around Kosovo. In spring will be held the European Parliament elections, after which the composition of the European Commission will change, and a commissioner will be from the environment of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Italian Deputy PM Mateo Salvini and the Polish PM Jaroslav Kaczynski. Orban and Salvini have close ties to Putin. The new European Commission will strengthen Putin's role in the Balkans and the solution may seem remote.
