Snowfall 'closes' 280 schools in Albania

 The snowfall and the and the low temperatures have caused the teaching process to stop in some areas of Albania.

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, announced through media that in 280 schools of Albania the teaching process has stopped.

"The Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, because of the Atmospheric Situation in our country, on January 9, 2019, suggests that some Regional Education Directors have taken the decision to suspend the teaching in some schools. According to reports from the Ministry of Education about the functioning of educational institutions in pre-university education, today's teaching is suspended in 5 directorates and educational offices such as Gjirokastra, Librazhd, Puka, Tepelena and Përmet. While in some other educational offices where some schools are located in mountainous areas, the lesson has not been developed. In total there are about 280 primary and secondary schools that have not started the teaching process due to weather conditions. Meanwhile, the teaching in other areas of the country is normal, "the ministry announces.

The announcement states that missed hours due to difficult atmospheric conditions will be compensated in the coming days.

The Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth has said it is in constant contact with school leaders and district prefects for monitoring and tracking the situation on the ground.
