Albania ranks second in the Balkans for foreign intervention in economic, political and military affairs

Albania ranks 72nd in the world and the second in the Balkans in the foreign intervention index, based on the data of last year, according to Monitor

According to the index, which takes into account external intervention in the political, military or economic sphere of a country, an indicator that transforms this country into a dependent one, Albania has a score of 6.7 out of 10 maximum. The highest in the Balkans is Bosnia and Herzegovina with 8.2, while Macedonia has 6 points in total, Serbia 6.2 points, Montenegro 6.5 points.

While less dependent countries in Europe, politically, militarily and economically are Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Should be noted that according to the indicators of this index, no country in the world received 0 points, that means with 0 interference. The above states score 1.

The Foreign Intervention Index takes into account the influence of external actors on the functioning - especially security and economy - of a state. On the one hand, Foreign Intervention focuses on security aspects of engagement by external, secret and open actors in the domestic affairs of a state at risk from governments, armies, intelligence services, identity groups, or other entities which may affect the balance of power (or resolution of a conflict) within a state. On the other hand, Foreign Intervention also focuses on the economic engagement of external actors, including multilateral organizations, through large-scale credit, development projects or foreign assistance, such as ongoing budget support, financial control or management of the economic policy of the state, creating economic dependence. External intervention also takes into account the humanitarian intervention, such as the establishment of an international peacekeeping mission. This index is an integral part of the Brittany Index with full data of 2017.
