Another project for the revitalization of Albanian cultural treasures is on the way. The Church of Saint Mary in Bënjë of Përmet will undergo full restoration, and will be completed in two phases.
The Starting work at this new cultural site was closely inspected by Minister Mirela Kumbaro, who said that this project, which comes after the announcement of Bënja as Historic Center in January this year, aims to make this village to an indispensable tourist destination.
"It is important to emphasize that we are today implementing a project started long ago. The Bënjë Church project has been prepared by the Institute of Monuments of Culture to be in line with the decision we made earlier this year to announce the Bënjën Historic Center. The project, which consists in the rehabilitation of the entire Historic Center of Bënja, will begin to be implemented within the framework of a major program that the Albanian government has signed with the World Bank.With the launch of the works for the restoration of the Church of St. Mary, this is the first step to be launched within this historic center.
