Former Albanian immigrant - Gentian Alimadhi leads for Parma Mayor

The Italian newspaper "La Repubblica" has devoted a long article to the Albanian Gentian Alimadhi (44) who aims to become mayor of the city of Parma in Italy. If we achieve this goal, Gentian Alimadhi would be the first Albanian immigrant and mayor in Parma.

Alimadhi is a candidate in the primaries, left center, with the goal to stand as candidate in municipal elections next year.

The 44-year-old born in Fier is an Italian citizen from 6 years, married, father of two children, a Criminal lawyer by profession, and as many Albanians he arrived by boat as illegal immigrant in Italy.

"Born in Fier, Albania, he lives in Parma from 24 years and as many Albanians went to Italy with one of the ships landed in Puglia in 1993. He later  is graduated as a lawyer and had his first professional experiences. Since 2010, he also has Italian citizenship," writes Repubblica.

Compared with other candidates in the preliminary race, the Albanian Gentian Alimadhi seems favored not only by the Albanian community in Parma, numbering about 8,000 people, but also many Italian citizens.
