Hidden Cocaine Refinery Discovered in Italy: Albanian Among Five Arrested in Major Drug Bust in Latina

 LATINA, Italy – Italian Carabinieri have dismantled a sophisticated cocaine refinery concealed among dense vegetation near a residential property in Latina, arresting five suspects, including an Albanian national, in a major anti-drug operation.

According to Italian authorities, those arrested include two Italian citizens, one Dutch national, one Colombian, and one Albanian, all suspected of participating in the production, processing, and distribution of cocaine.

During the raid, investigators uncovered a fully equipped laboratory designed for cutting, refining, and packaging cocaine. Officers seized precision scales, sieves, microwave ovens, vacuum-sealing machines, and hydraulic presses used to compress cocaine into bricks for illegal distribution.

Authorities also discovered two containers holding nearly 9 kilograms of cocaine undergoing the refining process, along with large quantities of chemical cutting agents and 27 bags of wood pellets, each weighing 15 kilograms.

Investigators believe the wood pellets had been impregnated with cocaine and were being used in a chemical extraction process to recover the narcotic before it was refined and prepared for sale.

The laboratory contained numerous chemical solvents, processing equipment, and residues from previous production batches. A subsequent search of the suspects' residence led to the seizure of 18 packages containing approximately 18.2 kilograms of cocaine ready for distribution.

Police also confiscated €8,810 in cash, a money-counting machine, two luxury watches, jewelry, six mobile phones, a laptop computer, and handwritten records believed to document the criminal organization's activities. Among the seized items were also an air pistol and a telescope.

The entire property housing the clandestine refinery has been placed under judicial seizure. Specialists from Rome's Scientific Investigations Institute (RIS) are conducting forensic examinations to determine the exact method used to extract cocaine from the wood pellets and the total quantity of narcotics involved.

Following the operation, all five suspects were transferred to Latina Prison, where they remain at the disposal of Italian judicial authorities pending further proceedings.
