Heavy Traffic Hits Lezhë County as Tourist Season Peaks: Long Queues from Milot to Shëngjin

LEZHË, Albania – Traffic congestion has intensified across Lezhë County as the peak of the summer tourist season and the arrival of thousands of Albanian emigrants have significantly increased the number of vehicles on the region's roads.

 

The most affected areas are the Milot–Balldren highway, the Lezhë–Shëngjin road, and the main streets of Lezhë city, where long lines of vehicles have formed during the morning hours. In several sections, traffic has come to a temporary standstill due to the exceptionally high volume of cars heading toward the Adriatic coast.

To manage the situation, Traffic Police and Public Order Police officers have been deployed at the busiest intersections and road segments. Officers are directing traffic and working to ease congestion, while authorities are urging drivers to use alternative routes whenever possible to avoid the most heavily congested areas.

The sharp increase in traffic is directly linked to August's tourism peak, with beach destinations such as Shëngjin attracting thousands of visitors every day. The seasonal influx has been further amplified by Albanian emigrants returning home for their summer holidays.

Authorities expect the heavy traffic to continue throughout the coming weeks, with road congestion likely to remain high until at least the first week of September, when vehicle volumes are expected to gradually return to normal.

Drivers traveling through Lezhë County are advised to plan their journeys in advance, allow extra travel time, and follow police instructions to help ensure safer and smoother traffic flow.
