A serious incident has shaken Ulcinj during the night, where a 46-year-old man from Kosovo is suspected of killing his Albanian partner and then setting fire to the apartment where they lived together.
According to Montenegrin media, the incident took place in the Kodër neighborhood, and the victim has been identified by initials D.N., a 36-year-old Albanian citizen.
Police reported that around 00:30, a fire was reported in an apartment in Ulcinj. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered the lifeless body of the woman inside the residence.
Shortly afterward, police identified and detained a 46-year-old Kosovo citizen, Bashkim Gashi, who had sustained burn injuries. He was first transported to the hospital in Bar and later transferred to the Clinical Center of Podgorica, where he remains under police supervision.
Authorities in Montenegro suspect him of “aggravated murder,” after which he allegedly set the apartment on fire and fled the scene.
Unconfirmed reports from JOQ Albania suggest that the victim may have been pregnant, although this has not yet been officially confirmed by authorities.
In coordination with the High State Prosecutor’s Office in Podgorica, police have seized surveillance footage and collected material evidence that will be analyzed as part of the ongoing investigation.
The victim’s body has been sent for forensic autopsy to determine the exact cause of death and further clarify the circumstances surrounding this tragic case.
