The operation, code-named “Shije e hidhur” (Bitter Taste), was carried out by Albania’s anti-narcotics unit in coordination with operational police structures. Authorities confirmed the arrest of two brothers, aged 20 and 25, while a third suspect remains at large. The investigation revealed that the group had established a small-scale lab producing synthetic drugs in gelatin form, designed to resemble sweets and appeal to teenagers.

During field checks near school areas, police seized around 50 packages of the substance, weighing approximately 650 grams. Further searches at the suspects’ residence in Tirana uncovered additional quantities of narcotics, including cannabis, synthetic materials used for production, electronic scales, molds, and various chemical components.

Authorities stated that each suspect had a defined role within the operation, covering production, transport, and distribution. The case highlights growing concerns in Albania and the wider Balkans over the spread of synthetic drugs targeting youth.

Investigations are ongoing to identify other individuals involved, as law enforcement intensifies efforts to combat drug distribution networks affecting schools and communities.
