Albania U-16 Squad Announced for UEFA Development Tournament as Tirana Hosts Key Youth Event

The tournament, organized by the Albanian Football Federation in cooperation with UEFA, highlights Albania’s growing role as a regional hub for youth football in the Balkans. Alongside Albania, national teams from Italy, Norway, and Wales will participate in the competition, which focuses on identifying and developing emerging talent.

Coach Cyme Lulaj has selected a group of 20 players, combining talents from domestic youth teams and Albanian players developing their careers abroad. This blend reflects the federation’s broader strategy to strengthen the national pipeline and expose young athletes to higher levels of competition early in their careers.

Preparations will begin on April 8 in Durrës, with all tournament matches scheduled to take place at the “House of Football” in Tirana. The competition calendar sees Albania facing Wales on April 11, Norway on April 13, and Italy on April 16. All matches are expected to be broadcast live, offering increased visibility for women’s football in Albania.

This event is one of four international tournaments being hosted in Albania during April, underlining the country’s increasing importance in European youth football structures. Beyond competition, the UEFA Development Tournament serves as a platform for experience-building, allowing young players to test themselves against strong European opposition while representing Albania on home soil.

The Albania U-16 team, part of the broader national youth system, plays a crucial role in preparing future generations for higher levels, including U-17 and senior national teams. Hosting such tournaments not only boosts player development but also strengthens Albania’s position within UEFA’s football ecosystem.
