Kosovo Police were quick to respond to the situation. Shaqir Bytyqi, spokesperson for the Prizren regional police, confirmed to KlanKosova.tv that the individuals involved were minors. According to Bytyqi, the case was officially registered, and the two minors were interviewed in the presence of their parents.

“On July 23, 2025, the police received a report along with a video recording showing an inappropriate act involving the national flag by two minors in Studençan, Suhareka. After an immediate response, the minors were identified and interviewed,” Bytyqi stated.

During questioning, the minors admitted to their actions but claimed they had no intention to insult the national symbol. They expressed regret and emphasized that their behavior was not driven by any political or hateful motives.

“The minors accepted responsibility and stressed that they had no intent to disrespect the flag or incite hatred. They expressed deep remorse for what they described as a thoughtless act,” Bytyqi added.

Following the police investigation, the case was referred to the competent prosecutor. After reviewing the circumstances, the prosecutor concluded that there was no legal basis for criminal prosecution. The determination was made on the grounds that the act was committed without awareness and lacked any deliberate intent to provoke or offend.

As a result, the case was officially closed and documented with an informational report.

This incident stands in contrast to the widespread patriotic values held by the majority of Kosovo Albanians, for whom the red and black flag remains a powerful symbol of national pride, resistance, and identity. Public reaction to the footage reflects not only a sense of outrage but also a deep cultural and emotional connection to the national flag—an emblem that has united Albanians across generations and borders.

While the legal process concluded swiftly, the public debate surrounding the importance of national symbols, youth education, and collective identity continues. The incident has also prompted discussions about the role of social media, accountability, and respect for national heritage in shaping civic behavior among younger generations.
