Three individuals have been arrested, including a police officer, and ten others are under legal investigation in connection with incidents during the Albania-Serbia football match held yesterday at the Air Albania Stadium in Tirana.
According to a statement from the Tirana Police, two of those arrested are accused of disturbing public order and throwing hard objects onto the pitch during the match. The third individual arrested is a 45-year-old police officer identified as B. Ç., who was caught red-handed accepting money from two Kosovar citizens in exchange for allowing them to bypass a physical security check.
“Crime Investigation Specialists from Police Station No. 1 arrested citizens D. I., 31 years old, and J. Ll., 29 years old, in the act, and initiated legal proceedings against 10 other individuals for disturbing public order and throwing hard objects onto the field during the football match between Albania and Serbia at the ‘Air Albania’ stadium,” police reported.
The police officer involved, B. Ç., a member of the Special Force Reserve Service (SHRSF), now faces charges of corruption and abuse of office. The two Kosovar nationals involved in the bribery incident have also been placed under investigation but will remain at liberty pending further legal proceedings.
Authorities have pledged to continue investigations and maintain strict security measures at future sporting events to prevent similar disturbances and ensure public safety.
