Serbian police officer Danilo Stojanovic, suspected of being a member of Darko Saric's criminal group, escaped from Montenegro to Albania on Sunday.

Stojanovic got out of the car driven by his fellow passenger V.R. and crossed into Albania on foot, after being stopped for control by the Montenegrin border police at the border crossing with Albania, Gërnçar.

"After a check of personal documents, when police officers drove the vehicle to the second border checkpoint, D.S. "(Darko Stojanovic) got out of the car and escaped," said the Montenegrin police.

The statement said that there was no arrest warrant for Stojanovic when he entered Montenegro from Serbia on April 14, nor when he crossed into Albania on April 17. However, Montenegrin police said they had informed Serbian police of Stojanovic's entry into Montenegro and had taken action to find his location.

Danilo Stojanovic left Serbia on April 14, two hours before Serbian police went to his apartment to arrest him. At the same time, Milutin Radovanovi, also a Serbian police officer suspected of being a member of Darko Riariq's criminal group, left Serbia and went to Montenegro.

Danilo Stojanovic and Milutin Radovanovic are suspected of being members of an organized crime group led by suspected drug boss Darko Saric, who was arrested last week, along with several other members of the group, in an operation coordinated by EUROPOL and EUROJUST, in Serbia and Croatia.
