As part of the "Balkan Trafik" festival, a new mural by Albanian artist Ledia Kostandini was unveiled on Friday at the Brandhoutkaai in Vismarkt.

The artwork already part of the city of Brussels is located at Parcours Street Art.

The work is called 'Wink' and refers to the European Union's cooperation with countries outside the union, such as Albania. At the same time, it is an overview of the Albanian capital, Tirana, this year's European youth capital.

The mural shows eyes floating in a blue sky. Eyes twinkle and look at Brussels passers-by with feelings of love and solidarity. The artist says that to realize this work she was inspired by René Magritte.

"It's a tribute to Magritte. He has always been a reference for me," says Kostandini. For me, is a reference to his false mirrors where there is a connection between the viewer and the subject. People look with their eyes, but people also see my inspiration from Tirana with my own eyes", explains the artist.

This mural, the fifth of Balkan Traffic is the result of a collaboration between the city of Brussels, Balkan Traffic, and the European Commission. In this way, the city of Brussels also tries to work on diversity and increase the visibility of women in public spaces.

The Balkan Traffic Festival will take place next week from April 28th to May 1st at De Brouckèreplein.
