German Ambassador Jorn Rohde has announced that his country is investing over 60 million euros in solar energy in Kosovo. Rohde said that this is being done to support the global energy transition.

The "Solar4Kosovo" project was discussed on Wednesday in a meeting between Prime Minister Albin Kurti and some of his government ministers, with the German Ambassador to Kosovo, Joern Rohde, and representatives of the German Development Bank.

This project is estimated to be one of the largest solar power plants in Europe and will be a combination of two components, solar district heating (Termokos) and photovoltaic power (KEK).

With this project, about 70 MW will be added to the heating system of Prishtina.

This project is expected to cost 64 million euros and will be funded by the Federal Republic of Germany and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. This project involves the construction of solar collectors of approximately 69,000 m2.

"With the measures for the expansion of the network that aims at the distribution of heat from the solar thermal system, up to 12,000 families or 60,000 inhabitants will be connected to the central heating network. The project will reduce the demand for electricity for heating purposes and will increase air quality, with about 40,000t savings of carbon dioxide per year," the statement said.

Kurti announced that in today's meeting the Government took the decision to give to the Public Enterprise "Termokos" for use 4 plots for the realization of this project. The Government has also approved the exchange of real estate between the Government of Kosovo and the Municipality of Obiliq for the needs of providing a location for the implementation of the Solar Heating Project "Solar4Kosovo".

Whereas, the German ambassador Jorn Rohde has announced that his country is investing over 60 million euros for solar energy in Kosovo.

"I am happy that we are starting the investment in solar energy for Kosovo with an investment of 60.6 million euros from Germany together with Prime Minister Albin Kurti", he stressed.

The project will be funded by the Federal Republic of Germany and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

This project, among others, includes the construction of solar collectors of approximately 69 thousand square meters.

With the measures for the expansion of the network aimed at the distribution of heat from the solar thermal system, up to 12 thousand families or 60 thousand inhabitants will be connected to the central heating network.

The project will also reduce the demand for electricity for heating purposes and increase air quality, by saving about 40,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year.
