Over 5,000 Albanians living in the UK are willing to work for free to help the country overcome the hydrocarbon crisis it has been facing for days.

Albanian Ambassador to the United Kingdom Qirjako Qirko in a statement to The Guardian said that if the British Government would like, Albania could offer 5,000 of the best drivers, immediately as an aid to tackling the fuel crisis.

According to Qirko, more than 150,000 Albanians living in the UK would work for free out of gratitude to the British. "Albanians are ready to work without salary for the British government to overcome this problem," he said.

The British government is facing a shortage of fuel in London and southeast England.

There is plenty of fuel at refineries in the UK, but the lack of drivers has slowed its transport to several gas stations which has led to a shortage of fuel in some parts of the country, particularly in London and the southeast.

On Monday, about 200 military personnel, including 100 drivers, will begin deliveries to provide "temporary" transport support.

During his interview, Cirko mentioned NATO's intervention in Kosovo in 1999 to rescue hundreds of ethnic Albanians and said: "Albanians in the UK would work for this country for free because of what this country has done for them." We are forever grateful to the government and the army of this country for what they did for our brothers in Kosovo."
