UEFA opens investigation against Arnautovic for ethical violations after offending Albanians

 UEFA has opened a disciplinary investigation against Austrian striker Marko Arnautovic, who on Sunday claimed to have made an insulting statement during the match against North Macedonia, which ended in a 3-1 victory for Austria.

For this issue, the highest body of European football has appointed an inspector for ethics, that will investigate the incident where the 32-year-old striker was involved.

The player of Serbian origin, apologized yesterday publicly on Instagram, to "his friends from North Macedonia and the Albanians, referring to the episode as an exaggerated outburst of emotions during the meeting, but without making public the content of the statements made.

According to the media, the insults were directed at Leeds United defender Ezgjan Alioski, labeling him of Albanian origin, after Arnautovic scored the third goal.

Television footage also showed his teammate, David Alaba who tried to silence him while the Austrian players celebrated the goal.

The Football Federation of North Macedonia has condemned the incident, adding that "an official letter has been sent asking UEFA to fine the Austrian Arnautovic".
