Albanian agriculture has the attention of the government but farmers are not satisfied

Agriculture has received the attention of the government this year, which has positioned the sector in one of the 5 pillars that will support the 2021 budget.

Farmers Vladimir Çela and Altin Kaja listed their demands to the Minister of Agriculture, Milva Ekonomi, invited to the Euronews Albania studio.

Mr. Çela, owner of a 1-hectare greenhouse, in the production of vegetables in agriculture, said that he exercises his activity without interruption since 1992, but during the entire period that he has exercised his activity, he has not benefited from any of the schemes of the previous governments.

He listed a range of demands on the government, ranging from direct support through the bill of sale of agricultural products, to control over abusers.

"We ask the state for direct support, directly to the farmer through the invoice for the sale of agricultural products, 10 lek per kg, the second we ask for the establishment of laboratories to control products for farmers who abuse with chemicals and hormones in order to make our goods reliable in the market as they have lost credibility due to the irresponsibility of some persons.

We are looking for agricultural advisors, which we do not have and so far we are working with our own forces, as far as we know we seek the safety of seeds, fertilizers, pesticides that are not at the right level. The government should also help us secure markets for the region; "We produce a commodity so we do not have to throw it away," said the farmer.

While the farmer Altin Kaja, who also has a cow farm admitted that he has benefited from the scheme of free vaccination of animals but said that according to him the oil subsidy scheme will never reach the farmer as it requires many documents which is impossible to gather.

"Many documents are required. The one who gave the land for use has emigrated, the notary wants 46 thousand leks for a notarial act. According to the scheme, I would get 50 liters of oil, with these expenses it is the same as buying it yourself", said Mr. Kaja.
