Intensive therapy capacities in life-saving equipment have been increased by 50% to cope with the situation caused by the coronavirus, declared the Minister of Health Ogerta Manastirliu during the handover ceremony of 10 new respirators by the German Ambassador in Tirana, Peter Zingraf, at the COVID2 Hospital "Shefqet Ndroqi".

To cope with the autumn-winter situation, we are preparing with several scenarios, the minister added.

"Thanks to the support of the Albanian government, the European Union, and other partners, we have managed to double the fleet of equipment in intensive care. We are facing a situation which is serious. We have about 200 patients admitted to both COVID hospitals in Tirana. But thanks to the commitment of the government, to strengthen the hospital capacity, only in the first scenario, we have dedicated more than 500 beds available to citizens who need hospital treatment. "In our autumn-winter plan, we have further strengthened the capacity of regional hospitals, doubling the number of beds available for Covid-19 treatment."

Manastirliu stated that field inspections, schools, business activities, etc. will be intensified to respect anti-COVID measures.

"This is not a war that is won only by increasing capacity, but the behavior of citizens is very important. "Our structures are continuing the work in the field to monitor the implementation of antiCOVID measures in business activities, schools, and other activities, as it is very important to implement the measures, to have a controlled course of the epidemic," said Manastirliu.

The autumn-winter plan for coping with Covid-19 in Albania envisions increasing hospital capacity, including regional hospitals.
