 A mafia assassination took place this afternoon in Tirana, a car was placed with explosives. The event that shook Tirana happened at Vasil Shanto Street.

The blast was so powerful that it was heard in all center -neighborhoods of the capital, while the vehicle is almost destroyed.

A single person was traveling in the car blown up on the bridge near the former NSHRAK area.

It was initially reported that he had lost his life, but during transport to the Trauma Hospital, the man showed signs of life.

While the director of the Trauma Hospital, Arben Zenelaj says that Preng Gjini's health condition is serious. He confirmed that he is undergoing surgery, adding that he is fighting for his life.

According to information, Gjini has lost both limbs.

He was identified as Preng Gjini, 51, the brother of Armando Gjini, who has been executed in Mirdita a few months ago. So far, it is suspected that Gjini was assassinated by an explosion detonated by remote control.

Meanwhile, an Italian passerby has been also injured at that moment. His name is Silvano Barbadoni and he was on the bridge when the remote-controlled explosion occurred. 

It is reported the Italian has no serious wounds and is out of life danger.

Investigation track

Some voices say the main track of the investigation is that of revenge, as the target of today's assassination is thought to be related to the murder of Kastriot Reçi, which took place in January of this year, still unsolved.

The Gjini brothers are reportedly opponents of Kastriot Reçi.

Four years ago, Reçi was questioned as a suspect in the murder that took place on September 9, 2016, where the former director of Power Distribution Operator for the northern region, Sajmir Jaku, was killed.

After questioning, Reçi was released for lack of evidence.

The execution of Sajmir Jaku would be followed by another chain of murders inside and outside Albania, all without perpetrators.

Seven months later, on April 28, 2017, in Rome, Italy, Gasper Reçi has been killed, Kastriot Reçi's brother.

According to Italian police, the two Reçi brothers were involved in drug trafficking.

The revenge between the groups continued.

On September 6, 2017, Kreshnik Gjini, nephew of Sajmir Jaku, was killed in Belgium.
