The National Agency for Protected Areas provided impressive footage of how the pelican feeds its young.

"Do you know how the pelican feeds its little one?" This video made today on the island of Pelicans shows it best. As the parent opens the beak, the little one inserts his beak until it reaches deep into their throat. There, the previously caught fish underwent a transformation, beginning to disintegrate. The National Agency for Protected Areas adds that “Referring to the way of feeding, in Christian icons, this is reflected as a sublime sacrifice of a parent for his child. They show the adult pelican that has torn its chest and feeds the little one with its blood", is said.
