Italians return to the taste of coffee in bars

For Italians, the precious moment of drinking a morning cappuccino or espresso coffee and eating a fresh ‘cornetto’ at their favorite bar table is one of the highlights of the day.

This simple pleasure was removed for almost two months as the bars were closed and Italians were stuck at home during the longest anti-coronavirus blockage in Europe - and the coffee prepared on its own is not the same.

But as of May 4, as restrictions gradually begin to be lifted, bars are being allowed to reopen by offering custom service - and locals are relieved.

Although more than 29,000 Italians have died from COVID-19 since the outbreak on February 21, some people have complained that the return to normalcy is very limited, while others worry that complacency will lead to a new wave of infections.
