Coronavirus increased the amount and quality of honey in Albania

The coronavirus pandemic, in addition to the negative effects, affected the reduction of environmental pollution and the biggest beneficiaries were the bees, which increased the quantity and quality of honey at least in Albania.

This fact is confirmed for A2 by one of the most well-known experts in the beekeeping sector. Vitor Malutaj, head of the Beekeepers' Federation, says: “Bees are a natural indicator of measuring environmental pollution. "With less pollution, bees will produce more and the quality of the honey will be better."

The migration to the chestnuts begins after June 1, after the honey harvesting process has been completed, and the vegetation of the heights is preferred, and then in winter, where is used the ready-to-eat food. Production seems abundant.

The price of 1 kg is 1500 leks (about 11 euros) and in total Albania counts about 360 thousand hives, with 21 thousand beekeepers, while 45 to 50 tons of honey are exported per year, mainly to the USA, Japan, and Hong Kong, without forgetting the much-sought bee milk.

Malutaj is confident that exports will increase this year, while for the future he seeks support from state instances.

The clean air and the removal from the use of some pesticides banned by the EU are the reasons that in this pandemic year, the honey "Made in Albania" gets a good reputation and is more in demand in international markets..
