4 dead 20 meters underground in Greece, they were looking for treasures

A tragedy occurred in Loutraki, in the region of Karbounari, as four men were found dead inside the cave serving as a shelter in World War II.

The four men, aged 35, 36, 49, and 72, three residents of Loutraki and a fourth from Isthmia, were pulled out dead early Saturday morning by the Fire Department after consulting with police as the late's husband began to worry and notified the authorities.

In fact, two of the four dead had children.

According to the first information, the four men had information that in the area of the old anti-aircraft underground shelters of the Corinth canal there was a buried treasure belonging to guerrillas.

The four friends began their search as early as Friday night and after locating the sites, decided to go digging in the shelter to find the rumored treasure, taking with them all the tools they needed, even an oil light engine.

The four men were found at a depth of 20 meters and the first reports of their deaths speak of suffocation from the fumes from the oil generator, as the rescuers themselves had to wear masks in order to locate them.

Around the dead people there were all their tools together and the diesel engine which probably killed the unfortunate men since at a depth of 20 meters the oxygen of the shelter was not renewed.

It is worth noting that the corridor of the shelter was sloping and the four unfortunate men walked it 20 meters without thinking that the oil generator should be outside the closed space of its corridors.

In fact, it is worth noting that the men were ready to cause an explosion in some places after they had put cables in order to find the treasure and two of them still had the cables in their hands.

A medical examiner has gone to the scene to investigate the causes of death of the four men, while relatives of the unfortunate men are giving statements to the Police.
