Kosovo Prime Albin Kurti says there will be not New Government without snap elections

The incumbent Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has considered the recent action of the President Hashim Thaçi to be beyond the competence and is endangering of the Constitutional order, paving the way for the formation of a new coalition government after consulting with the parliamentary parties. During his speech, Mr. Kurti considered the president illegal and that in cooperation with the LDK, they are acting against the public interest.

"It is not in the competence of the President of Kosovo to assess the interests of political parties but to protect the state interest. What has happened today is not foreseen and endangers seriously the constitutional and parliamentary order. The President of the Parliamentary Republic of Kosovo is a passive figure in political life. The distribution of Parliament is the only measure provided by the Constitution as the right of the President. Elections are the only option", declared the head of "Vetëvendosje!".

These actions said Mr. Kurti, are deepening the crisis in the country by creating insecurity and frustration. He stated that both the president and the political parties have no authority to reject new elections. "An old political club announced that they are not for elections, the fear of facing the citizens. My priority is to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 and everything else political or partisan does not matter at all."

Asked whether he would vacate the prime minister's office if a new government were to be voted on in parliament, the incumbent prime minister hinted that he would not allow such a thing to happen. Mr. Kurti said there would be no new government without snap elections.

"The President of the Republic has a few months left in his mandate and he wants to catch the last train, but he has run away and there are no more trains for the President. These efforts jeopardize the republican order of Kosovo. Must be held early elections for a new government, any other action is a diversion. We will carefully follow what will happen in the coming days and we will address the Constitutional Court, but as long as the President's words are passed in official documents", concluded the acting Prime Minister of Kosovo.
