Former Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and Macedonian Zoran Zaev have been awarded with the Peace of Westphalia Prize for their diplomatic acumen in resolving Macedonia's name issue.

The international jury said that the two laureates of this award have resolved the decades-long dispute over the name of Macedonia by reaching an agreement that is a "work of art of diplomacy". Without the engagement of former Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and former North Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, "the name dispute would not have ended and this neighborly hostility would continue to destabilize the entire Balkan region", said the head of the Economics Association for Vestafine and Lippe (s), Reinhard Zinkann.

After decades of disputes, on February 12, 2019, Macedonia changed the name to North Macedonia, Greece insisted after Macedonia's independence that its northern neighbor changes its name because it coincides with the naming of the northern region of Greece and feared for eventual territorial claims.
