Athens accuses Skopje of violating the Name Agreement

The Foreign Ministry of North Macedonia has received a protest note from the Greek Foreign Ministry in violation of the Prespa Agreement on behalf of the state.

As the chief of diplomacy has announced, Nikola Dimitrov, official Athens has reacted to an action by the Minister of Labor and Social Policy, Reshella Mizrahi, since at a press conference, as behind her there was an official banner citing the old name - Republic of Macedonia.

“The Prespa Agreement must be fully implemented. It paved the way for Macedonia's accession to NATO and its strong candidacy for opening accession negotiations with the European Union.

Minister of Labor and Special Policy Mizrahi is a member of VMRO DPMNE, which does not accept the agreement reached on June 17, 2018, to change the name from "Macedonia" to "North Macedonia".

VMRO DPMNE is in opposition but based on the law on government, it now participates in technical government and in addition to the Ministry of Labor runs the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Foreign Minister Nikola Dimitrov has asked the Minister of Labor to remove the banner and put the new one by the name of North Macedonia, otherwise he said he would ask the prime minister to dismiss her.

But in a reaction from the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy the claims of the head of the diplomacy have been rejected.

The VMRO-DPMNE has repeatedly said that if it wins the early parliamentary elections on April 12, it will immediately launch procedures for restoring the old state name and thereby cancel the Agreement with Greece.
