29-year old Greek Police Officer committed 11 robberies in Athens for gambling

A 29-year-old police officer was arrested in Greece while being held in jail for allegedly committing a total of 11 robberies in Athens and on the outskirts of the Greek capital.

The defendant stated before police officers that he was addicted to gambling and was therefore obliged to commit thefts. According to Greek police, shortly before his arrest, he had committed two armed robberies at a petrol station in Peristeri and at a stall in Galatsi, from which he stole a total of 690 euros.

A subsequent investigation revealed that since last December, he had committed nine other armed robberies at eight gas stations and at a kiosk in Agia Paraskevi, Chalandri, Ilioupoli, and Galatsi, of which he stole a total of about 4 400 euros.

Investigations found and seized the tools he used to commit the robberies, namely his service pistol, clothing, and 3 scooters, as well as 690 euros from the last two robberies.
