Emmanuel Macron honors Albanian writer Ismail Kadare with 'Grand Officer of the Legion of Honor'
 
 Albanian writer Ismail Kadare has been praised by French President Emmanuel Macron with the highest state title, "Grand Officer of the Legion of Honor". In announcing the order of the legion of honor, published on January 1 in the official journal, the name of the Albanian writer appears alongside 483 other prominent people.

The ranks for them are divided into knights, officers, commanders, high-ranking officers, and large crosses. Along with Ismail Kadare with the same title are honored the sociologist Claudine Herlizch, the Egyptologist Kristian Ziegler and the French-Bulgarian writer Julia Kristeva.

Ismail Kadare has held the prestigious title "Commander of the Legion of Honor" since 2016 and is now proclaimed "Grand Officer of the Legion of Honor.

Other well-known personalities were honored with high titles and ratings.

Founded by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802, the Legion of Honor is the highest of the French national honors. Today, the legion has 92,000 members, rewarded for their outstanding merits in the service of the French nation.
