Italian police have seized over 18 billion euros from mafia clans
 
 At the end of 2019, the Italian Financial Police has published official data on the seized assets of the Italian Mafia over the past 5 years.

According to the Italian authorities, from 2015 to date has been seized 18 billion euros of assets to domestic organized crime.

This wealth sequestrated by the state is equal to 1% of national GDP.

During these 5 years, the assets of about 55,000 people were investigated and over 10,000 of their products were examined, an average of 5.5 per day.

Organized crime in Italy has perfected considerably the entrepreneurial and economic capability.

The Italian Guardia di Finanza has invested over 1m euros annually in nationwide inspection activity in all institutional sectors for timely capture of signs of criminal infiltration in the local economy.

The activity of Guardia di Finanzia is carried out in close cooperation with the Tax Investigation Police, which was established in 1921 and has contributed to the prevention procedures and operations of money laundering, recycling and investing in secure goods such as quoted art paintings, precious diamonds or archaeological finds of particular value.
