After the Earthquake began the arrests, 15 handcuffed in Durrës

When 18 days have passed since the November 26 earthquake, police and prosecutors have launched arrests of suspects who, by their actions and inaction, have caused the loss of 51 lives.

The action started in the early hours of the morning in Durres, a city with the highest number of deaths. Authorities have yet to make an official announcement, but it is learned that the detainees are about 15. Among those detained are officials of the Durres institutions responsible for building permits.

Sources also confirm that some detainees have also been arrested for failing to comply with the municipality's permission to build additional floors.

They are accused of illegal construction. The Durres Prosecutor's Office is investigating in a single file the buildings in which there were casualties in Durres. Hotel 'Mira Mare', the 'Kovaleshenca', the 6-storey building near the stadium, the former 'two turkeys' palace and the Lala family villa in the former swamp are being prosecuted by a prosecutor. Whereas buildings that collapsed and were declared uninhabitable are being pursued by another prosecutor. Investigative actions on the same issue are being carried out by the Prosecution of Kruja, Lezha and Tirana.
