Russia brings an experienced diplomat to Tirana: Mihail Yurevich Afanasjev

 A new ambassador to Tirana has taken office. He is Mihail Yurevich Afanasjev, who submitted the credentials to President Meta on November 16. The news was announced by the embassy through a Facebook post.

Mr. Afanasiev has worked in the central apparatus of the Soviet Union's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (USSR) and the Russian Federation, as well as in diplomatic missions abroad. In 2005-2010 he served as Russian Ambassador to Ethiopia. Prior to his appointment in Albania, he headed an important department in Russia.

Afanasjev headed the Department of Support Information at the Russian Foreign Ministry. Although the information on the activity and areas covered by this department is scarce, it is learned that one of the main objectives of the work is information security.

Afanasjev has led several reforms to strengthen information and technology security at the Russian Foreign Ministry.
