25-year-old Xhuljana Aliaj arrested after spreading fake news relating to Earthquake in Albania

 The specialized structures of the State Police following the measures taken to prevent and legally punish those persons who, through false announcements on social networks spread panic with destabilizing news, have intensified their work in identifying, documenting and the legal punishment of any issue.

In this context, the Directorate of Counter-Terrorism arrested the citizen, Xhuljana Aliaj, 25, born and residing in Durres, on suspicion of committing the crime of "Spreading false information that arouses panic".

During the monitoring of open sources, social networks from the structures of the Anti-Terrorism Directorate found that the citizen Xhuljana Aliaj, posted on her Facebook profile articles with false and untrue content, spreading thus panic through the effects of this news.

"Please flee from Porto Romano. The waterfall and gas deposits have been cracked and could explode if there will hit again an Earthquake. Get away!" This is what Aliaj wrote on her Facebook profile.

The Directorate of Counterterrorism in cooperation with other specialized structures in the State Police has identified other cases for which in cooperation with the respective District Prosecution Offices are proceeding with criminal proceedings and in each case, the media and the public will be informed.

The State Police appeals once again to all citizens not to fall prey to the news of the scam that is spread on social networks, which creates panic and invites anyone who faces such panic notifications to immediately notify the State Police at 112, or at the Digital Commissariat.

While we point out that there were many reactions from different personalities for the girl to be released immediately as this is unfair and dangerous for the Albanian democracy, including former Prime Sali Berisha, the Catholic Priest Dom Gjergj Meta, and many known journalists.
