Skopje among states with the most polluted air in the world
Skopje is already among the top ten most polluted cities in the world. In the previous two days, at the top of the country's alarming pollution list was Kumanovo, where PM 10 particles were 35 times the permitted norm, with over 1800 micrograms per cubic meter.

Local authorities in Kumanovo say the reason for the heavy pollution there is the hospital that uses coal for heating. The municipality announced that it had immediately started aerosolization as an urgent measure to reduce pollution while asking the central government to allocate funds for the full gasification of the hospital.

The Ministry of Environment says measures have been taken, while they announced more information for Monday. The minister in charge, however, said Saturday that it takes time and long-term measures to solve the pollution problem.

"There is a plan, of course, we should all be aware of the fact that this problem cannot be solved at once, but with long-term strategies. We all need to work together to reduce air pollution, we know that we will need time because many factors contribute to this, household heating, energy efficiency, transport vehicles, the industry contributes to this and we must take action and regulations. We will continue to work to achieve results." said Naser Nuredinim, Minister of the Environment.

The problem of polluted air is always intensified during the winter. Last year, the government adopted precautionary measures, namely free public transport, a double price increase for parking lots, all construction work being stopped, and has been reduced the use of official vehicles by state institutions.
