Europe is Albanophobic, Elexander Soros says

Alexander Soros, the son of renowned philanthropist Gorge Soros, founder of the Open Society Foundation, has written that Albanians are being discriminated against by Europe.

"There is an underlining prejudice and bigotry towards ethnic Albanians in Western Europe that cannot be ignored as a factor in the refusal of Albania and North Macedonia by the Council," he wrote on the social network Twitter while showing a post of Johannes Hahn who writes that this kind of failure is not the responsibility of Albania and North Macedonia. "Europe must accept that it suffers from Albanophobia."

The European Union's reluctance to start membership talks with Albania and North Macedonia has been criticized by many prominent European figures.

In the Balkans, the reactions are more diverse. In North Macedonia, new elections are expected. The sacrifice of changing the name of the country is now seen as a waste. In Albania, the opposition accuses the government of rejecting Brussels, while the ruling government has accused the opposition of damaging Albania's image. Prime Minister Edi Rama said that the reason for the decision has nothing to do with the Balkans but with the situation within the EU.
