The Netherlands bans the burqas or niqabs in public places

The full-face coverage, with burqas or niqabs, will be banned today in the Netherlands in institutions such as schools, hospitals, public buildings, and public transport under a new law, whose implementation has already sparked debate.

The law includes - according to statistics - between 200 and 400 women who use Burkan or niqab in a state of 17 million. After its entry into force today, its implementation has been criticized by the public opinion.

After 15 years of political stalemate on the issue, the Dutch parliament that is dominated by a center coalition has finally passed the law on June 2018, several years after its Belgian and French neighbors.
