The Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini said on Monday that Turkey should never be a European country, adding that Ankara's accession negotiations with the European Union should be cut off once and forever.

He also mentioned the Islamic extremism as Europe's "public enemy", while stressing the protection of the continent's outer borders as a priority of an alliance he tries to establish with other European leaders of his far-right parties.

The Italian politician was speaking at a press conference in Milan with leaders of ideas similar to his own, such as Marine Le Pen. He wants to set up the alliance before the European Parliament elections next month.

Salvini said the group to be created does not just intend to "lose or participate. Our goal is to win and change the rules of Europe," he said.

The anti-immigration politician of the North League party, met on Monday in Milan with leaders of the far-right of the Danish, Finnish and German parties to discuss the future alliance.
