The Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, providing the technical details for the Kukes Airport said that this is a strategic project due to its location between Tirana and Pristina, as well as a potential of the entire national economy.

"It is determined that all existing buildings will be crashed in order to build a new, modern and full-fledged terminal. The runway will be the foremost, as it needs to be added a few hundred meters more, which will certainly require its time. However, we are within deadlines, without spending a day," said Balluku.

For Prime Minister Edi Rama, this project is also seen as a generator of thousands of new jobs.

"There are many certification procedures, accreditation. We saw with 'Air Albania' looking for time with checks, verifications, with different groups of international organizations, but what's important is that civilian work is over," Rama said.

The representative of the concession company is engaged in making the airport functional according to the forecasts.

"We as a concessionaire firm undertake that the works be realized within the year. We will advance, we will work 25/7, we will add capabilities to finish this work by April 2020, regardless of planning," said the concessionaire's representative.

The investment value for 2019 for this airport will be 7 million euros; spread in over 512 thousand square meters. The runway length is 1,900 meters and the width 45 meters.  Is foreseen the extension of the runway on the north side with about 500 meters. The capacity is designed for more than one million passengers per year. A new terminal will be built, as well as a new tower.
