Albania-Kosovo roaming tariffs to be abolished on May

The tariffs of roaming in telecommunications between Kosovo and Albania will be lifted in May this year, says to Radio Free Europe the national coordinator of both governments, Fatmir Limaj.

He underlines that the abolition of the tariffs and many other agreements previously reached between Kosovo and Albania are on the right path to implementation.

"We (Kosovo) are ready to implement immediately the roaming, but I believe that Tirana will soon make a decision by the Government and Parliament, and in May we will not have a problem with roaming, and it will then be implemented. We also have the issue of driving licenses that has almost been resolved. In the issue of free movement of citizens, we must be careful in respecting the obligations we have with the European Union as two countries", Limaj says.

The roaming tariff means the telecommunications and the service that the citizens use in another country from a mobile phone operator's center.

These tariffs are mostly twice as high as those used for telecommunications within a country. The Kosovo Assembly in June last year voted a resolution on lifting roaming tariffs on telecommunications between Kosovo and Albania.

Meanwhile, the European Union has urged all Western Balkan countries to abolish this tariff as a form of facilitation for communications between citizens.
