The Norwegian Statkraft applies for the floating photovoltaic plant on Banja reservoir

 The Norwegian company Statkraft, which has invested in Albania in the construction of the Banja hydropower plant as well as the Moglicë HPP through Devoll Hydropower, as announced earlier, will also invest in solar energy. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy announced that the company has already submitted its application for the construction of a floating photovoltaic plant over the Banja reservoir.

"Based on the Article 15 of the Council of Ministers Decision no. 822, dated 7.10.2015 "On the Adoption of the Rules and Procedures for the Construction of New Generating Capacity of Electricity...Concession", the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy announces the following:

Following a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Infrastructure (MIE) and Energy and the Norwegian company Statkraft AS, the company Statkraft Renewables Albania sh.pk expressed its interest and submitted to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy the application for the construction of a photovoltaic floating production plant of energy from renewable sources on Banja reservoir, Elbasan. This project is extremely innovative in terms of contemporary technology used. A detailed application of the Norwegian company can be found at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy," reads the announcement of MIE.

In an interview a few weeks ago Devoll Hydropower Managing Director Tom Kristian Larsen confirmed to Monitor that within the new strategy of Statkraft orientation is the diversification in wind and sun energy as part of the agenda. Albania is part of this list according to him, but for the time are being evaluated the support measures to be given.
