Albanian domestic wheat cultivation is reduced significantly

The domestic market invasion of imported wheat and the decline of grain prices in the international market is pushing the Albanain farme to avoid the cultivation of this crop.

The data provided by the Regional Directorate of Agriculture in the district of Fier show that for 2017 were planted in the Mallakastra area about 1200 hectares of wheat less than in 2016.In the domestic market, a quintal of wheat costs 3 000 leks. while the wheat imported mainly from Serbia, Greece, Russia or Canada is sold with 4300 lek per quintal. For Albanian farmers, grain gains can not justify the multiple costs from planting to harvest.

While the interest for Wheat in the Myzeqese area is downright the opposite is happening with vegetable cultivation, which has grown to about 722 hectares only in the first six months of 2018.
