"The role of KFOR remains unchanging, contributing to freedom of movement and a safe environment. We will continue to maintain the lack of bias, while we will work to support the development of a stable Kosovo, for all stakeholders in the region. This mission has a special personal significance for me. I am the first US officer with Serbian descent who commands the multinational Battle-East group. I am privileged to serve here and to make my commitment to a safe environment for all the people of Kosovo," said Ducich.

Asked about the role of KFOR, in case of activation and arrest by the Special Court, he said that they are not part of the political process, but will be willing to respond to possible riots.

"We will not be part of this political process. We will be ready to respond to any turmoil and contribute to maintaining calm and stability," he said to Kosovo media.

The outgoing commander Michael Spraggins said he was happy to be performing his mission, but at the same time outraged that he was leaving Kosovo.
