IMF: 2.6 billion euros outside the banking system in Albania

 The amount of money circulating outside the Albanian banking system amounts to 2.6 billion euros.

An analysis of the International Monetary Fund says that this value is as much as 17% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

An economy with high informality, which according to some estimates is at 40% of GDP, supports the population's preference to keep cash, money outside the banking system.

The IMF says that year-on-year tendency has been declining, this also because of the formalization of the economy.

The informality that in this case is estimated at 40% of GDP is not specified where it is focused, to understand how this money is generated.

Howerev according to IMF, Albania holds the top place among 10 Balkan economies for the highest circulation of money outside the banking system.
