Italian doctor Tullio Simoncini, who is arrested for pretending that cancer is just a bacterium that is cured with baking soda, is sentenced to 5 years in prison.

A Court in Rome condemned Simoncini for deliberate fraud and murder.

The doctor had treated for six consecutive years the 27-year-old Italian named Luca Olivotto, who came to Albania in hopes of recovery, and died after a medical intervention, a case that turned into a medical scandal.

The Italian family members accused Tullio Simoncini, who according to them with the theory that cancer is a fungus and is healed only by lime bicarbonate had promised that their son would be healed.

This doctor did this after visiting the Roman house with the help of a medical associate of a religious institute. The doctors found the patients, while in Tirana was performed the cure costing 7,000 euros.

"Today's judicial session has been positive for the painful story of the Olivotto family, giving hope that such dangerous methods of cure causing death will be punished.

No one will turn Luca back to his loved ones - lawyers Francesco Lauri and Giovanna Zavota said, but it is a great pleasure to see the condemned ones responsible for this."
