Researcher Nadin Lucia has discovered a testament of Alexander the Great in which he addresses the people of Shkodra by granting them a territory under administration and emphasizing his Illyrian origin.

The document has been recently published by an Italian researcher who conducted scientific research on Alexander the Great. In a letter sent to the people of Shkodra, Alexander the Great writes: "I, Alexander, son of Philip, King of the Macedonians, the embodiment of monarchy, the creator of the Greek Empire, the son of Zeus, interlocutor of Brahams, trees, the sun and moon, triumphant over Persian kings, Lord of the World where the sun rises and never sets, from North to South, the prominent protector of Illyrian peoples of Dalmatia and Liburns, and other peoples of the same language populating the central area of the Danube and Thrace, extend love, peace, and greetings to all those who adhere to the rule of the world. Because you have always demonstrated steadfast faith and indomitability in my battles, I grant and convey to you the ownership of all the free territories of Akuilonit up to the border of southern Italy. No one else may inhabit these areas except as your slaves, and their descendants will be slaves to your descendants. This is written by me in the Castle of Alexandria, established by me on the banks of the Nile River in the twelfth year. With the will of the gods honored in my realms—Zeus, Mars, Pluto, and Minerva, the god of gods. Witnesses to this deed are Athlete, My Lolotheti, and 11 other nobles, whom I appoint as my successors to rule the world, as I pass away without leaving heirs." (The will was discovered and translated by Italian researcher Lucia Nadin, presented in the scientific research "The Statute of Scutari, the first half of the 16th century with additions granted in 1469," edited by Lucia Nadin, June 2002, Rome).
