A Career in European Diplomacy
Moreira de Sousa brings extensive experience from both European institutions and the diplomatic service. Before arriving in Albania, she served as Head of the European Commission Representation in Portugal, where she was involved in communicating EU policies and priorities at the national level.
She has also served as European Union Ambassador to Cabo Verde, giving her significant experience in representing the EU and managing diplomatic relations outside the bloc.
A New Chapter for EU–Albania Relations
Her arrival in Tirana comes as Albania continues its negotiations toward EU membership and works through a series of reforms linked to the accession process.
As the new head of the EU Delegation, Moreira de Sousa will play an important diplomatic role in relations between Brussels and Tirana, including on issues such as the rule of law, institutional reforms, economic development and Albania’s path toward EU membership.
Her presentation of credentials to President Begaj formally marks the start of her diplomatic mission in Albania.
