14 Arrested After Clashes at 94th Anti-Government Protest in Tirana as Supporters Demand Their Release

 TIRANA, Albania — Fourteen people were arrested by Tirana Police following clashes during the 94th consecutive protest outside the Prime Minister’s Office, as tensions escalated between demonstrators and police forces protecting the government building.

 Citizens and protesters gathered outside Police Station No. 3 in Tirana to demand the release of the fourteen people detained following clashes that occurred during the ninety-fourth protest in front of the Prime Minister's Office.

According to the police, those arrested are accused of resisting officers by force and attempting to enter the security perimeter established around the Prime Minister’s Office. The arrests were carried out after confrontations broke out between protesters and police during Monday evening’s demonstration.

Protesters Gather Outside Police Station No. 3

On Tuesday morning, several protesters gathered outside Police Station No. 3 in Tirana, where some of the arrested demonstrators are being held.

The protesters demanded their release and chanted “Lironi shqipet!” — “Free the eagles!”, expressing their opposition to the arrests.

The gathering outside the police station comes after demonstrators moved toward the same facility late Monday evening following the clashes near the Prime Minister’s Office.

Tensions Escalated Near the Prime Minister’s Office

During the 94th protest, police officers formed a security cordon around the government building as demonstrators attempted to approach the restricted area.

The situation became tense as some protesters confronted police officers and attempted to cross the security perimeter. Police subsequently intervened and made 14 arrests.

The authorities have described the arrests as a response to actions against police officers and breaches of the security perimeter, while protesters have characterized the arrests as unjustified and are calling for those detained to be released.

Protests Continue for a 94th Day

The latest developments come amid a prolonged wave of anti-government demonstrations in Tirana that has now reached its 94th consecutive day.

The protests have featured calls for political change and criticism of Prime Minister Edi Rama and the government. Demonstrators have repeatedly gathered outside the Prime Minister’s Office, with tensions occasionally escalating into confrontations with police.

As protesters continue to demand the release of those arrested, police forces remain deployed around key government institutions in Tirana and are monitoring the situation.
