The latest victim was a 73-year-old man from Skopje's Aerodrom municipality, who had a severe clinical condition and multiple serious underlying illnesses. He spent 22 days in hospital and required intensive care and respiratory support.

21 Patients Hospitalized

According to Cana, 21 patients have been hospitalized so far. Eighteen have confirmed West Nile virus infections with neuroinvasive disease, while three cases remain suspected.

Cana said that new patients are being admitted almost every day, with around 20–21 patients currently receiving treatment at the clinic.

Four patients remain in serious condition in intensive care, while the others are being treated in the neuroinfection department.

Most patients with severe symptoms are elderly, although the clinic has also hospitalized a 25-year-old patient, Cana said.

The latest death highlights the continued spread of West Nile virus in the country, particularly among older patients and those with serious underlying health conditions.
