Italian-Albanian singer Ermal Meta has publicly expressed support for the ongoing protests in Albania, known as the “Flamingo Revolution,” focusing his message on protecting land, communities and the environment.
While presenting his latest song, “Nu simu niente” (“We Are Nothing”), Meta spoke about ordinary people standing up against powerful industrial and corporate interests seeking control over their land.
“We are nothing, but perhaps we still have one small thing: the power to stand up against those who want to take over our land.”
“Small Farmers and Ordinary People Become Great”
Meta said the protests in Albania had made him reflect on the struggles of ordinary citizens, particularly farmers confronting powerful interests.
“Small farmers, ordinary people who actually become great when they stand up against unimaginable powers.”
The singer also drew parallels with disputes over land and development in Italy, mentioning Puglia, Ostuni and Sardinia.
He concluded with a strong statement defending the right of communities to retain control over their territory:
“As long as we are here, this land is ours. It cannot be sold, nor can it be bought.”
Meta's comments place him among prominent public figures who have expressed support for the protests in Albania, including internationally renowned singer Dua Lipa.
